Goddess
of the Month:
Oya

Oya
is the West African/Yoruban Goddess of weather. She is the personification
of wind and storms, ranging from gentle breezes to hurricanes, depending
on her temper. In this aspect She represents the changes and transformations
humans go through during the course of life, and She teaches us how
to remain calm in the eye of the storm. Oya vehemently protects women
from conflict and poverty. She is often depicted carrying a sword
or machete to cut away the past and make way for the future. Oya is
also a goddess of commerce, supplying marketplaces and retail business
with wealth and success.
